Co-nest is inspired by Yuxuan Shang’s experience with birdwatching and her observation of how birds adapt to urban environments by incorporating human waste into their nests. This act of gathering and repurposing becomes a reflection on coexistence, environmental fragility, and the connection between textile materials and waste.

Constructed through Dubbied machine knitting, crochet, tying, and layering, the work combines cotton yarn, bamboo, and recycled elastic fibers to echo the adaptive logic of nest building. Through its soft and protective structure, Co-nest invites viewers to consider shared habitats and the delicate relationship between human and non-human lives.
