Cotton yarn, copper wire
Weft-facing double weave

Confluence is a weft-facing double weave piece made with hand-dyed yarn and copper wire. Beginning from the center, the entire structure develops in full symmetry, creating a mirrored composition where two woven layers remain visually distinct yet structurally connected. Through double weave, the fabric becomes a way to explore separation and inseparability, moving beyond the flat surface of weaving while still existing as one continuous textile.
This structure reflects Yuxuan Shang’s interest in the relationship between humans and nature: seemingly separate, yet always part of the same system. The colors come from natural dye experiments, allowing irregular shifts and subtle variations to become part of the work. Alongside this piece, Shang also developed a series of related material experiments, including natural dye tests, embroidery studies, and tapestry explorations, which informed the final woven structure.
